the unconventional backsplash

Our kitchen has been a constant budget-conscious work in progress since we moved in two and a half years ago. Our three littles make sure that renos will not be a priority for a long time! When we saw our house for the first time, my initial thought about the kitchen was “tired and dated.” I do love a good diy so I knew that I could take it up a notch with a coat of paint and some bright accessories. I also recently gave the counter top (which has been a thorn in my side) a little makeover which you can see here. The next thing on my list of “needs” for this kitchen is a back splash to tie it all together. I have always had the idea that I want to use classic white subway tiles, but I’m not so sure anymore. I know I want to eventually replace the counter, so I feel like I don’t want to commit to tiles. Instead, I’m thinking about easy, non-committal backs plash ideas that could help tie everything together. I need help! Here are some ideas from around the web that I’m considering. Comments please! I can’t decide which one to go with.

I love the look of white shiplap. If we decide to take down the upper cabinets, I will definitely be considering something like this. via

I always love a good pallet project and a kitchen back splash is no exception. It pairs well with a light cabinet color and gives an instant rustic feel. via
